He was primarily active in Tamil cinema, where he made his debut with the 1952 film "Parashakti", Ganesan acted in nearly 300 films, including Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, and Hindi language films. Created history by becoming the first Indian artist to win the Best Actor award at an international film festival for his historical film "Veerpandiya Kattabomman".

 In 1995, France awarded him its highest honour, the Chevalier of the National Order of the Legion of Honour. In 1997, the Government of India honored him with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. This great artist passed away on 21 July 2001 at the age of 72. Sivaji Ganesan was one of India's first method actors and one of the most influential actors the country has ever produced.

Today is the 93rd birth anniversary of actor Sivaji Ganesan. On this occasion, Google has paid tribute to the actor by making a doodle. Ganesan was born as Ganeshmurthy on October 1, 1928, in Villupuram, a town in the southeastern state of Tamil Nadu, India.

 At the age of just seven, he left his home to join a theater group. In December 1945, Ganeshmurthy portrayed the Maratha ruler Shivaji in a play titled "Shivaji Kanda Hindu Rajyam". His performance was so iconic that the name became associated with him, and Ganeshmurthy earned the nickname "Shivaji", to be known by that name for the rest of his life.
